What the list says
45 of 50
sit in India and hold 91% of the people. The other five are in the Philippines (3), Poland (1) and Egypt (1). No other country makes the cut.

of the headcount belongs to banks, insurers and financial firms. Nineteen of the 50 centres are banks. Technology, for all the noise, has seven.

US and UK headquartered groups own 35 of the 50. Germany has five. France, Switzerland, Finland, South Korea, Canada, Japan and Australia share the rest.
23 years
is the median age of a centre. Eighteen were set up in or before 2000. Only five since 2010. The oldest is Citigroup (1985), the youngest Commonwealth Bank (2018).
54,000
people in the three Philippine centres (Optum, JPMorgan Chase, Manulife). JPMorgan's Manila and Cebu operation would rank 13th in the world on its own.
7,000
is the entry ticket. Rank 50 needs about 7,000 people. The top ten alone hold 335,065. Rank one is eight times rank fifty.
The names you will look for and not find
A ranking is only as honest as its omissions.
Amazon. Its India figure of more than a lakh includes warehouses and delivery stations. No corporate-only number has ever been published, so we will not invent one.
Oracle. Every number in circulation is a press estimate that predates this year's India cuts. Oracle itself has said nothing.
The Big 4. EY GDS, Deloitte USI, KPMG Global Services and the PwC Acceleration Centers are delivery arms of partnerships, a category of their own. They get their own ranking next.
Bosch. Bosch Global Software Technologies publishes one global number (23,000+). Its India base alone would probably land around 15th. The moment an India figure is published, it goes in.
Qualcomm, Dell, HPE, Walmart, Maersk. Large centres, no current public figure for the country. Same rule, same outcome.

How the ranking was built
Scope. Captive, in-house centres of foreign-headquartered groups. No IT services companies, BPO vendors or consulting firms, however large their Indian delivery centres are. One row per group per country.
Headcount. The latest public figure, in this order of preference: audited country-by-country filings (HSBC, Barclays, Standard Chartered, NatWest, Deutsche Bank, BNP Paribas and Societe Generale all publish one), company statements and press releases, credible business press, and Great Place To Work listings where the company reported its own count. Where a group publishes only a whole-country total, that total is shown and marked rather than guessed at.
Starting universe. The GCCPROs GCC Database, which tracks 2,551 capability centres in India and 4,799 worldwide. Every candidate above 5,000 people was re-verified against primary sources for this edition.
