Why the city numbers add up to more than 2,533.
Because a Global Capability Centre is not one building. 880 of India’s 2,533 GCCs, 34.7% of them, have offices in two or more cities.
A company with engineering in Bengaluru and a finance hub in Pune is a real employer in both places. Counting it once, in whichever city happens to be listed first, would understate both. So every city figure here counts the centres with an office in that city, and the city column deliberately sums to more than the national total.
Where a region is made of several cities, the opposite correction applies. Delhi NCR is the clearest case: Gurugram, Noida, New Delhi, Greater Noida, Manesar and Faridabad add up to 540, but 482 GCCs actually operate there, because many of them have offices in more than one NCR city. Every regional total on this page counts each GCC once; it is never a sum of its cities.
